Eclipse is an alternate game mode that adds stacking challenge modifiers to successive runs. Each Survivor starts at Eclipse level 1, where playing Eclipse mode as that Survivor will have the first of the modifiers shown below. After successfully completing a run, that Survivor's Eclipse level will increment (up to a maximum of 8), and the next modifier will be added to future runs (in addition to all the modifiers from lower Eclipse levels). Eclipse has the same difficulty settings as Monsoon Monsoon, and Challenges that require Monsoon can be completed on Eclipse. However, clearing an Eclipse run will not unlock the Survivor's logbook entry.

Artifacts cannot be used in Eclipse, and the Artifact Portal cannot be spawned.

Lunar Coins still drop in Eclipse, and Radio Scanners can still spawn if the player has not unlocked a stage's environment log.

Eclipse can be played in solo or multiplayer. In multiplayer, the Eclipse level will be set to the lowest level from all Survivors in the lobby.

There are no challenges or unlocks associated with Eclipse; it is strictly a challenge mode to test players' skills, although visual indicators of Eclipse progress will be displayed on the character select screen for the game mode, including a Gold Eclipse icon after completing the Eclipse level on every character. For example, the image below indicates the completion of Eclipse 8 with all characters.

Eclipse Level Modifier Notes
Eclipse1.png Eclipse 1 Ally Starting Health: -50% Survivor and all allies start at half of their maximum health upon spawning, including at the beginning of every stage.
Note that this is not a reduction to maximum health, only the starting amount.

  • Transcendence TranscendenceBgLunar.pngTranscendence.pngTranscendence
Convert all your health into shield. Increase maximum health.

Convert all but 1 health into regenerating shields. Gain 50% (+25% per stack) maximum health.

    • If a player's goal is solely to progress through Eclipse levels, looping can significantly reduce run difficulty. Item scaling outpaces enemy scaling over time, allowing players to greatly outscale enemies as a run progresses.
      • However, be aware that relying on looping may diminish the learning experience and the challenge Eclipse is meant to provide, since it reduces the need to adapt to limited resources or to develop effective item-macro strategies.

  • Save up lunar coins and visit shops when possible as several lunar items are of extra value during an Eclipse run. Learning where Newt Altars can spawn on each stage can help remove potential RNG.
    • Corpsebloom CorpsebloomBgLunar.pngCorpsebloom.pngCorpsebloom
Double your healing... BUT it's applied over time.

Heal +100% (+100% per stack) more. All healing is applied over time. Can heal for a maximum of 10% (-50% per stack) of your health per second.
can be useful before Eclipse 5, but should be avoided past Eclipse 5 due to its healing benefits being cut in half twice.
    • Shaped Glass Shaped GlassBgLunar.pngShaped Glass.pngShaped Glass
Double your damage... BUT halve your health.

Increase base damage by 100% (+100% per stack). Reduce maximum health by 50% (+50% per stack).
is extremely strong due to most first loop enemies not having the damage to one-shot a player on half health, meaning that its downsides rarely matter. Furthermore, E8 usually means taking damage will already lead to failure and that the player's one-shot protection will already be nullified. Stacking more than 1 however is quite risky and ill-advised.
    • Transcendence TranscendenceBgLunar.pngTranscendence.pngTranscendence
Convert all your health into shield. Increase maximum health.

Convert all but 1 health into regenerating shields. Gain 50% (+25% per stack) maximum health.
is also a run saver, as the player is almost never going to have enough healing to outpace the value of its shields and it completely nullifies Eclipse levels 1, 3 and 5. Furthermore, trying to out-heal damage will only build up stacks of permanent curse on Eclipse 8, so its downsides are rarely applicable.
    • Spinel Tonic Spinel TonicBgLunar.pngSpinel Tonic.png60sSpinel Tonic
Gain a massive boost to ALL stats. Chance to gain an affliction that reduces ALL stats.

Drink the Tonic, gaining a boost for 20 seconds. Increases damage by +100%. Increases attack speed by +70%. Increases armor by +20. Increases maximum health by +50%. Increases passive health regeneration by +300%. Increases movespeed by +30%.

When the Tonic wears off, you have a 20% chance to gain a Tonic Affliction, reducing all of your stats by -5% (-5% per stack).
is incredibly powerful and the short run duration means you're unlikely to feel the downsides as much. Simply saving it for the teleporter bosses and Mithrix can trivalize the fights.
