Near as I can tell, enemies will only spawn within about 36 meters or so. Which means that the nearest floating cube-block (near the exit portal platform) is just close enough to stand on, blocks the shots from the reliquary, doesn't have a ceiling (to obstruct things like AtG Missiles), and provides a nice view. This makes it ideal for zero-time farming of items using a Sacrifice trial. See this screenshot.
