Amp Core

Amp Core.png
Type Special
Cooldown 8s
Proc Coefficient 1.0
Description Launch a drone that charges up by absorbing damage. After a short duration, it explodes, dealing 300-2000% damage.
Challenge Operator: That Just Happened
Notes
  • Starts with 300% of your base damage stored.
    • This is not affected by crit.
  • Stores 150% of the damage dealt to it.
  • Explodes in a 8m to 20m radius, depending on charge amount.
  • Explodes after 2s to 3s, depending on charge amount.
  • ANY damage will charge up the AMP, including Operator attacking the core.
  • You cannot proc item effects when attacking the core.
  • Upon spawning, the core taunts enemies in a 14m radius, making them aggroed towards it.
    • Any new damage will likely re-draw aggro back onto the attacker.

Tips

  • All other skills can be used while Ascent Protocol is active.
    • Using Ejection Core will give a short rise in Ascent Protocol height, which can be used to reset the increasing descent speed.
  • Ascent Protocol can be canceled by jumping, leaving you vulnerable to fall damage.
    • The reactivated leap of Ascent Protocol can be performed after this jump for more distance, height, or to reach another drone. You are still vulnerable to fall damage in this state, so be wary.
  • Ejection Core can be used to launch yourself up if the area of effect hits you, even while using Ascent Protocol, allowing you to effectively stay in the air for extensive periods of time or reach areas you normally wouldn't be able to. You can take fall damage from the height of this jump, so use it to gain height, extend your Ascent Protocol or chain into your Ascent Protocol.
    • You can still reset your momentum with this skill, should you not have Ascent Protocol at the ready.
    • You can technically chain Ascent Protocol into a jump cancel, reactivate the Ascent Protocol skill and use Ejection Core to jump up into another, or the same drone, continuing the glide. This may require some practice as it's difficult to perform and is unreliable due to being dependent on the positioning of drones around you, something you cannot entirely control.
  • Operator's Transport Drone Mk 2 is capable of picking up various items, such as chests and drop them on enemies or bring them to you.
    • You can use this to bring the legendary chest hidden on Conduit Canyon directly to you, ignoring the need for the Prison Matrix to remove the barrier. It's unsure if this is a bug or will be patched out.
  • FIREWALL can be used to block hard to avoid attacks.
    • You can use the FIREWALL to completely negate damage from abilities such as the Wandering Vagrant Wandering Vagrant'sWandering Vagrant.pngWandering Vagrant
Gentle ProtectorHP: 2100 (+630 per level)

Trivia

  • All of Operator's drones have names.
    • His unique Gunner Drone Mk 2 is named CROSSHAIRS.
    • His unique Healing Drone Mk 2 is named DOC.
    • His unique Transport Drone Mk 2 is named CHIRP.
  • All of Operator's drones also have unique Logbook entries.
    • In CROSSHAIRS' Logbook entry, it's implied it may have once belonged to Captain before Operator.
      • Captain affectionately refers to it as CROSS.
    • CHIRP's Logbook entry implies Operator is human, but likely physically scarred beyond recognition.
      • CHIRP was designed to have a claw just like Operator's claw.
    • Operator has multiple eyes all over his head.
  • Unlike all other survivors, Egocentrism will be an oval when replacing Operator's head.
  • Operator bears an extremely similar appearance to Pilot from Risk Of Rain returns, notably they have extremely similar overalls, replaced limbs with almost identical leg replacements and both have unique helmets. Operators abilities are also very similar having a focus on striking from the air, using a pistol as a primary, Ascent Protocol is functionally very similar to both of Pilots utility skills and Ejection Core is similar to Pilot's Airstrike ability.
    • Operator's focus on commanding drones is also extremely similar to HAN-D. Notably, HAN-D had access to a healing, damage and mobility ally drone which are also represented by Operator's choice of starting drones. Operator is effectively an amalgamation of both Pilot and HAN-D into a single character.
  • An older design of Operator can be seen in an unused achievement icon, which most notably lacks Operator's claw, having two completely normal arms. It also has no resemblance to Pilot whatsoever, meaning the connection between the characters was not originally intended.
  • Operator is seen wearing an ankle monitor, and his lore entry implies that Captain is responsible for him.
